Brief Installation Instructions ===========================================

  Make sure the following packages are already installed:

        1. OpenGL or Mesa
	   http://www.mesa3d.org/download.html
        2. Fltk
	   http://www.fltk.org/download.html
        3. Guile 1.3.2
	   ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/guile/guile-1.3.2.tar.gz

        NOTE TO REDHAT/RPM USERS:

        All of the RPMs for the above packages are problematic and will
	not work correctly.  The Fltk RPM doesn't include GL support;
	the Mesa 3.1 RPM I tried did not include some necessary includes
	(although the Mesa 3.0 RPM seems to work); Mesa can often be
        optimized beyond what a general RPM allows, anyway; and finally
	there is no Guile RPM for 1.3.2, yet.

	For now, I reccomend that you uninstall these RPMs and compile
	these packages yourself.

  To build Extreme Wave on *nix, there are two basic steps:

	$ ./configure
	$ make

  The configure script also has a "--with-fltk-dir=/dir" option to use
  the Fltk library and includes from the fltk distribution directory.
  This is only useful if you don't have permission to install Fltk.

There is currently no installation procedure. You should run
Extreme Wave from the ./src/ewave/ directory.

Possible Problems =========================================================

  Here are some possible problems and their cause(s) and solution(s):

  PROBLEM:
    I get errors like:
    fltk_timer.cxx:210: passing `long int (*)(long int, long int)' as argument

  SOLUTION:
    You need Guile 1.3.2. Really. You may need to uninstall an old version.

  PROBLEM:
    ./ewave: error in loading shared libraries
    libguile.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

  SOLUTION
    The guile library is not in your library path. Consult the guile
    documentation. The default install directory for Guile is /usr/local/lib,
    so make sure /usr/local/lib is in /etc/ld.so.conf and then run ldconfig
    as root. You may just need to add it to your path,

    $ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
